Shenyang Police Dog Technical School is the only one center which trains and brings up dog handlers for Public Security Bureaus in China. It is directly under the Ministry of Public Security.
The Shenyang Police Dog Technical School was founded in 1956 and it is located in north of Shenyang, covering 94,220 square meters and we also have an outdoor training place which covers 31,720 square meters. There is a teaching building, an experiment building, a library, a students' dormitory and a mess hall in our school. There are 98 teachers in our school,which including 21 teachers, 24 lectures, 12 associate professors, 3 professors and other staff members. Shenyang Police Dog Technical School main focuses on training of police dog technical personnel.
The students of the school are all high school graduates from all parts in China. Before entering this school, they must pass the Chinese entrance examination. Now ,every student graduated from this school will study four years here. At the first two years they study some theoretical subjects, such as, English language, criminal reconnaissance, criminal law, computer, veterinary science, raising science, basic principles of training, the theories of scent, tracking and so on . At the last year in school, they are paired with suitable puppies. From then on, they work with their dogs every day, and train their dogs directed by our instructors. During this period, they should complete the obedience training, tracking and searching, criminal work and distinguishing training. Before they leave our school, they should pass the training examine which is design by the school.
Exams including Scent ID-work The following is our schedule of the exams.
1. Obedience - Walk to heel off leash, recall to front to heel, retrieve, speak on command, 'sit', 'stand', 'down' when the dog is told and remain in position.
2. Tracking and Searching - The dog can track about two hours old at 1000 yards, search a building for a person and speak when it finds the person.
3. Criminal Work - The dog can chase a person with a gun, bite fairly firmly on the loose cloth on
"criminal" right arm and complete control him until the handler comes.
4. Distinguishing Training - The dog can successfully distinguish the right article from several ones, by smelling the original which the handler orders him to smell.
Having passed through the final test, the students will be assigned to work at the public Security Bureaus all over China. Since 1985, the school have trained and brought up more than 2000 police handlers. Now, they have been key members of police dog handlers in their place of work. Some of them have become the leaders in the Public Security Bureaus.
